For as long as people have gathered things worth carrying, there has been a market basket. The form is one of the oldest in human craft—made to move through the world with its owner, to the market and back home again, full of everything a day required.

Josephine was made for exactly that life, and she has the bearing to prove it. She is sculptural enough to be displayed as art, yet possesses the quiet strength required to live with you every day.

Brittany wove Josephine from rattan reed, by hand, start to finish. Long and low, she features a single wooden handle centered above her like a statement.

Her natural reed carries a quiet tonal variation—the particular beauty that comes from a material that is never quite the same twice, reflecting the unhurried pace of the maker. She is wide enough to be genuinely useful and refined enough to sit on an open shelf when the errands are done.

Josephine is unhurried. She has been to the market before, and she will go again.

Her name is hers alone and belongs to this specific weave; once Josephine is adopted, her name retires into history.
