Esme and Gather & Stitch are fictional. The letters, the shop, and the people in them are made up for your delight.
What is this, exactly?
It’s part story, part knitting, and part fiber education - in an envelope.
Esme is a fictional fiber arts shop owner. She’s setting up her dream shop, Gather & Stitch, in Portland, Oregon, and you’re getting her letters as she goes. Over the first year, you’ll watch her find the space, name the shop, pick the colors, source the yarn, and meet the neighbors. By early spring, the doors open, and you get to be there for all of it.
Esme is a fictional character, and Gather & Stitch is a made-up shop. The knitting is real.
What’s in her letter
Esme writes the way she’d talk across the counter. She shares the ups and downs of turning her new building into her dream.
She tells you what fiber she’s fallen for this month and why. She tells you what’s on her needles, and what stitch she’s stuck on or showing off. She points out the colors she keeps noticing. And she tells you about her neighborhood and the characters that make up her world.
It reads like a letter from a friend who happens to be building the yarn shop you’ve always wanted to walk into.
What comes with it
Each envelope is more than a letter. It’s meant to be savored.
A collectible stitch card: a beautiful image of the stitch on the front, and the full pattern on the back. Keep them and build your own stitch library.
A fiber sample and card: something you can touch, and a card that tells you where the fiber comes from and what's special about it.
An art print from Esme’s world: a piece that shows you what she sees, printed on its own cardstock so you can frame it or pin it up.
Surprise extras: paper keepsakes, ephemera, and small things that change every month.
Why you might love it
Most of what lands in your mailbox these days asks for something. Esme's letters are for you.
Open the envelope when you’re ready to take a few joyful minutes for yourself.
Read Esme’s letter with your tea. Run the fiber sample between your fingers and read where it came from. Set the art print where you can see it while you work.
It’s a small, quiet moment, once a month, built around the thing you already love to do.
And if you’re shopping for a knitter, it’s a gift that keeps arriving. No yarn to match, no pattern to guess at. Just something lovely in the mailbox each month.
