Only one Diana
The catshead basket is one of the oldest forms in Appalachian and colonial American basketry—named for the way the base gathers and rounds, like a closed hand holding something precious.
It was a household basket, meant to sit close by to hold the small things a day required. Simple in form, it is nearly impossible to put down once you are holding it.
Brittany wove Diana from rattan reed, by hand, start to finish. Round and gathered at the base and open at the top, she possesses the kind of quiet tactile presence that makes people reach out and touch her without thinking.
Her natural reed is warm and clean, the result of a technique passed from hand to hand for centuries—and one that Brittany has made entirely her own.
Diana is sculptural enough to be displayed as art, yet she is the basket you pick up and do not want to set back down. She is made to be lived with, touched, and used.
Her name is hers alone. It belongs to this specific weave, and once Diana is adopted, her name retires into history.
